Brief About York Appliances

York was founded in 1874 in York, PA. The company began making ice machines before transitioning to selling early air conditioning systems. Among its credits, the company notes that its products cooled the world’s first air-conditioned building. Today, York systems are used to heat and cool several of the most notable structures across the world, including the Empire State Building, the Sydney Opera House, the English Chunnel, and the U.S. Capitol Building.

All York systems are designed, engineered, and built in the United States. They employ over 2,600 people at their facilities in Kansas and Oklahoma.

Johnson Controls purchased previously publicly-traded York in 2005. Today, York operates under Johnson Controls.

York furnaces

York offers three furnace lines: the Affinity™ Series, the LX Series, and the Latitude™ Series. The Affinity line is their most energy-efficient, while Latitude is the most budget-friendly. A happy medium between cost and efficiency, LX products are the company’s most popular.

Here are three furnaces — one from each line — York offers:

Affinity YP9C: This is York’s most efficient furnace. It won a Consumer Digest Best Buy Award and boasts an impressive 98% annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE) rating, so it’s no surprise that it’s ENERGY STAR® certified. And although York doesn’t list the decibel level for this product, they say it offers “quiet, effective air circulation.”
LX TL9E: Another ENERGY STAR-qualifying furnace, the TL9E offers 95% AFUE. Again, York doesn’t list the decibel level for this furnace, but they say the fan motor is designed to “ensure comfort.”
Latitude TG8S: York’s simplest model, the TG8S has an AFUE of 80% but no ENERGY STAR certification. York doesn’t advertise the sound output of this furnace
